Make a Difference Day

In partnership with the Senator Evan Bayh Service Leader Summit

Overview: The IUPUI-Senator Evan Bayh Service Leader Summit will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009, from 8:00a.m-5:00p.m. at the Government Center in downtown Indianapolis.

This is the sixth year that IUPUI is a co-sponsor of the Senator Bayh Service Leader Summit, an event in which outstanding high school students across Indiana are invited to Indianapolis for a day of leadership and service. The Service Leader Summit consists of leadership activities and service projects to inspire young people to continue their involvement in their community.

IUPUI is recruiting volunteers to serve as small group leaders. As a group leader, IUPUI volunteers will be responsible for leading a cohort of high school participants in teambuilding, a service project, and reflection activities. Participants may also have a chance to meet Senator Evan Bayh.

Requirements and Expectations of a Service Leader Summit Group Leader:

Lead small groups of high school students, along with a co-leader, in teambuilding, service, and reflection activities
Exhibit excellent interpersonal communication and facilitation skills
Act as an IUPUI ambassador and role model by positively representing your IUPUI experience to high school student participants
Exude an outgoing personality to connect high school students who are not familiar with each other
Exhibit the positive attitude and flexibility needed to be involved in all Service Leader Summit activities from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Bayh Service Leader Summit Group Leader Orientation and Training:
There will be a mandatory orientation and training session for Group Leaders on Friday, October 16th at 10:00 AM in CE 307 (more information will be provided). Those who do not attend the training session will not be able to volunteer at the Senator Bayh Service Leader Summit.

Due Date of Application:
A limited number of slots are available and applicants will be selected based on their past leadership and volunteer service experience. The application is due no later than Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 at 5:00 PM to Corinne DeRoberts in the Campus and Community Life Office in the Campus Center, suite 370.
