Selecting appropriate service sites and establishing mutually beneficial working relationships with community partners are important elements of successful service-learning course. The resources below will help you with both of these tasks.
This list of service sites is by no means an exhaustive list, but it does include a number of agencies with whom IUPUI faculty, students, and staff have worked over the past years. Consequently, these community sites are already familiar with service learning and with working with faculty to develop educationally meaningful service experiences.
This Guidelines for Selecting a Service Site will introduce you to some basic principles of selecting and working with community organizations to ensure that the service experience is appropriate to your teaching goals as well as meaningful to students and community residents.
Extending the Classroom: A Resource Guide for Supervisors of College Students in Community-Based Settings is an excellent resource to share with community organizations to orient them to working with college students.
