Community Service Scholars

Sam H. Jones Community Service Scholarship Program

Application deadline: March 15th

ACTIVITIES:

  • Enroll a service learning course with other Community Service Scholars (CSS) in the Fall semester
  • Volunteer for four hours per week throughout the academic year at a partner
    service agency in the Greater Indianapolis area
  • Work with other CSS to coordinate a campus-wide service event, currently Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning
  • Participate in service leadership workshops with other service scholars in the Spring Semester
  • Attend additional service leadership-focused activities, including Make a Difference Day and a January CSS Rejuvenation Retreat

 

Scholarship applications for the Community Service Scholarship are available in the IUPUI Scholarship Office, Cavanaugh Hall, and Room103 or online at the IUPUI Office of Student Scholarships.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
The Community Service Scholarship recognizes IUPUI students for previous service to their high school, campus, or community over the past two years, and supports their continued
involvement in educationally meaningful service, leadership, and social advocacy.

  • Applicants must have completed 15 credit hours at IUPUI by the end of Spring semester of application
  • Applications must maintain a 2.75 cumulative GPA

The application includes:

  • A completed IUPUI scholarship application  
  • A personal essay
  • An academic transcript (One Start is acceptable)
  • Two letters of recommendation. At least one letter must be written by someone who is familiar with the applicant’s service activity and academic achievement. At least one letter of recommendation must be from an IUPUI campus representative.

 

The personal essay includes:

  • A description of the ways that the applicant has been involved in campus or community service activities during the past two years.
  • An overview of the positive impact the applicant's service has had on others and the significant lessons that the applicant has learned by participating in voluntary service.

 

On campus interviews will be conducted for all finalists.
