Recognizing excellence in publicly engaged scholarship and civic and community engagement

The work to fulfill democracy's promise takes many hands. It takes community building and engagement. Universities are part of this work, as are individuals, families, neighborhoods, community organizations, businesses, cultural institutions, and government agencies. For those from higher education and community that commit to civic engagement, there are numerous awards and recognitions that celebrate excellence in this area.

Democracy's promise is rooted in (re)imagining and working toward shared futures that advance social change. Democracy's promise lives in efforts to harness the power of civic learning and in the practices of collective self-governance and active, informed participation of individuals and groups working toward co-creating flourishing, sustainable, and just communities. 

The list below outlines awards and recognitions at the campus, system, state, and national levels. The range of awards available include options both for individuals as well as organizations and partnerships.
