- Description:
- AmeriCorps is a term of service to your community and your country. As a program of John Boner Neighborhood Centers and a key strategy of the IndyEast Promise Zone, the Near Eastside Education AmeriCorps (NEEA) program achieves our mission by positively affecting the social-emotional development of youth aged infants/toddlers through Grade 8, and enveloping our neighborhood parents in a supportive and empowering community. Partnering with schools, day cares, and youth-serving organizations, we train and equip AmeriCorps fellows to assist youth in developing the self-confidence, as well as the emotional, social, and behavioral skills they need to be the best learners that they can be. AmeriCorps members will also build transformational relationships with neighborhood parents to empower parents to leverage community resources as a primary support network. This could include introducing them to community leaders who are redeveloping their communities, connecting them to local parent support groups, or making referrals to neighborhood organizations that will work with them to achieve their family goals (i.e. financial literacy coaches, affordable home-ownership programs, fresh produce community gardens and food pantries, etc.). Fellows will also leverage workshops and other activities to engage parents in becoming more connected to their communities and the resources available to support them. With strong community networks and support systems in place, parents are better positioned to provide a stable home life that is conducive to supporting their children's educational excellence. Member Benefits: Up to $5,000 stipend; a $3,047/50 education award which can be used toward college, graduate school, vocational training, or existing student loans; extensive training and networking; on-going professional development that goes beyond most entry-level positions; discounted membership to the Chase Near Eastside Legacy Center Fitness Zone
