- Start Date:
- 04/06/2020
- Description:
- Students who lack stimulating and interactive summer experiences are likely to lose up to three months of learning from their previous school year. Because of differences in families’ resources, the impact of the problem is greatest for students in low-income communities. To address this need in our local community, Ransburg is piloting an interactive program to engage K-12 students in the community with educational experiences in literacy and STEM to prevent student summer learning loss and to tackle difficult academic standards in fun and inventive strategies. Interns will create and implement innovative curriculum and activities for participants based on their appropriate grade level following Indiana Academic Standards to maintain and/or develop new skills. In addition to this role, the intern will additionally: administer pre-assessments to gauge potential challenges in student learning and post-assessments to for retention and comprehension. Adapt to students' learning styles to review learning material or to introduce new learning material, build relationships with students' parents to address their expectations and goals for their students' success, collaborate with additional community partners for summer programming activities.
