The Children's TherAplay Foundation, Inc.: Volunteer Sidewalker

Address:
9919 Towne Road Carmel, Indiana 46032 United States
Description:
The Children's TherAplay Foundation is the nationally renowned leader and educator in equine-assisted therapy, which is enthusiastically endorsed as an effective treatment tool for children with special needs. We need 6-8 volunteers per day to walk alongside our therapy horses during a child's physical or occupational therapy session to stabilize and ensure client safety. To get started those interested in volunteering would schedule a time to come out for a 1 hr tour/orientation. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older. Sidewalkers are not required to have horse experience since we have trained professional to guide the horses around. Our therapists will actively be treating the child while on the horse and the sidewalker is there as an extra set of hands to help support the child and assisting with games and activities performed while on the horse. We are open Monday-Thursday 8am-6pm and Fridays 8am-5pm. Minimum of 1 volunteer service hour per visit. On average volunteers sign-up for 2 hour time slots and come on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
Social Issues:
Animals, Children and Youth, Health and Medicine
Day(s) of Week:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
