- Description:
- The mission of the Indy Hunger Network (IHN) is to create a system that ensures anyone who is hungry can access the nutritious food they need. Our work is focused on improving access to food, improving the nutrition of the food supply, and increasing the sustainability of the hunger relief system in our area. We are a collective impact organization that provides support for CICOA Aging and In-Home Solutions, Connect2Help 211, Gleaners Food Bank, Meals on Wheels of Central Indiana, Midwest Food Bank, Second Helpings, and Society of St. Vincent de Paul, as well as a network of over 170 food pantries in Marion and surrounding counties. We have 3 volunteer positions that are available year-round. We require a culinary volunteer to lead the cooking demonstrations. The volunteer does not need to be a chef, just someone who enjoys cooking and can explain the basics of knife safety. We also require a nutrition volunteer, someone who is studying in the field of nutrition or dietetics. Lastly, participants of the class get to go home with all of the ingredients used in class to make the recipe at home. That being said, we also require an assistant to help bag groceries and do dishes. We have classes year-round. We use SignUp Genius for volunteers to pick specific locations and times they are available.
